St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is a Christ-centred, child-focused community that nurtures each student spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. We foster engaged learning environments that inspire all to actively live the Gospel in their daily lives.
Our School
Established in 1934 by the Sisters of St Joseph, St Joseph’s is a co-educational Catholic parish primary school serving approximately 240 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. Grounded in the values of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, the school fosters holistic development-spiritual, academic, emotional, social, and physical-within a Christ-centred environment.
The school maintains a strong partnership with St Augustine’s Parish, with active involvement from the parish priest in sacramental programs. Religious Education is central, supported by the ‘Making Jesus Real’ program and Christian Service Learning, including student volunteering at the Pinjarra Community Kitchen.
At St Joseph’s, we deliver a contemporary, high-quality curriculum through a variety of teaching practices to ensure all students are actively engaged in meaningful and effective learning. Our teachers design their programs based on the Religious Education Units of Work, the Western Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework. Our pedagogical approach is flexible and responsive to the unique needs of our students. Depending on what will best support a child’s learning at a given time, we draw on a range of methods including play-based learning, explicit instruction and inquiry-based approaches. To support our teachers, we have implemented a range of whole-school programs that ensure consistency and confidence in classroom practice. Our students also benefit from enrichment opportunities and specialist subjects including Physical Education, Health, Science, The Arts and AUSLAN.
Student wellbeing is a priority, supported by initiatives like the Berry Street Education Model, URStrong, and Restorative Practices. Early Years education emphasises play-based learning and strong family collaboration.
The school works closely with its Advisory Council and Parents and Friends Group to nurture a vibrant, faith-filled community.
