Catholic Education Western Australia is inclusive of students for whom English is an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) with many schools highly trained in dealing with social, pastoral and academic needs of EAL/D students.
For example, Aranmore Catholic College in Leederville contains an Intensive English Centre, which is staffed by highly experienced TESOL teachers and provides access to English across the curriculum for secondary school aged students prior to their transition into mainstream classrooms.
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) provides Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) resources to assist teachers of EAL/D students. the In addition, there is an ATAR, General and Foundation Year 11 and 12 course in EAL/D, which is recognised by Western Australian universities as an equivalent to English or Literature for tertiary entry requirements.
EAL/D is growing in Australia and there are many courses, initiatives and consultants to assist in this area.
