St Mary’s School is a co-educational Catholic primary school catering for approximately 190 students from Pre-Kindy (3 year olds) to Year 6. Located in the town of Merredin, 260km east of Perth, in the central Wheatbelt, St Mary’s offers a holistic education enabling all children to experience the integration of Catholic faith, culture and life.
St Mary’s School was founded in 1926 and staffed by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart until 1986. The school continues to strive for the ideals of Blessed Mary MacKillop in its service to country children and families. The school also enjoys a very close and supportive relationship with the Parish.
The school today is committed to seeking excellence in teaching and learning and endeavours to create a comfortable atmosphere for all children, which will enhance their self-esteem, confidence, dignity, respect and willingness to learn.
The school is committed to the education of the whole child based on Gospel values to foster growth in their faith journey to become more Christ-like. This endeavour is carried out in a caring environment where individual needs are catered for in a spirit of compassion, understanding and encouragement. A team approach to education is a feature of St Mary’s School and it enjoys excellent support from the School Board and a very active Parents and Friends Association.
St Mary’s School’s comprehensive learning program is enhanced by special learning area programs including Science and Digital Technologies, Physical Education, Language Other Than English (Italian), and Performing Arts (Dance and Drama). We also offer private music lessons in guitar and piano as well as an established school choir.
We are committed to maximising the learning opportunities for all students with the support of parents and the wider community. We strive for our students to be faith filled, confident, fully rounded lifelong learners in the 21st century.
