Sacred Heart College SORRENTO

Sacred Heart College is a Catholic co-educational Year 7 -12 College located on the coast in Sorrento, Western Australia. The College has approximately 1400 students and 170 staff. Established in 1967 by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, our history can be traced back to 1898 when Sacred Heart School opened in the central Perth suburb of Highgate. The College motto is Semper Superne Nitens – meaning “Always Striving Upwards – to You our God.” Faithful to the Gospel and the tradition of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, we develop our students to respond to Jesus by striving for personal excellence, having the courage of their convictions and being active agents of change. Our core values are: To go beyond ourselves with compassion, courage and respect.

Our College offers a wide range of quality educational opportunities that foster the spiritual, academic, cultural and sporting development of students. We encourage students to be very busy and very engaged in their College. While 75% of our students are university bound, we also have an extensive vocational education program. We offer Gifted and Talented opportunities as well as Learning Support and our Mary MacKillop Special Education Centre caters for students with special learning needs. Central to our curriculum is the philosophy of creating life-long 21st Century learners who use their potential and talents in the service of others, and for the benefit of themselves.

Our College prides itself on the quality of our pastoral care. We strive to ensure that each student is well known and cared for. Each student is encouraged to discover and develop their interests and talents in order to become the best they can be.

The College recognises our parents as partners and as the prime educators of their children. Parents are encouraged to contribute to the College through the Board, our Parents and Friends Association and through volunteering to assist in the Uniform Shop, Friends of Sacred Heart Arts, sport and Christian Service. It is the village that raises the child.

A highly successful extracurricular program is offered to students. The College has established an outstanding reputation for excellence based on consistent outstanding achievements in academic activities – the arts, sport and Christian Service activities.
